The creative process is always paradoxical. It remains a mystery even to the artist themselves. Why do some art paintings come to life effortlessly, while others demand days of work? Why do you sometimes have a clear image in your mind of what the finished artwork should look like, while other times you're guided solely by impulse and trust it blindly? I adore creativity because it can surprise even the creator.

Working on this monumental neo-expressionist portrait, I aimed to reinterpret the legacy of Jean-Michel Basquiat for myself, and in part, this piece is dedicated to him.  The revolution he sparked in contemporary art inspired me to attempt to create a portrait of this genius and rebel using his very own tools.

Don't seek a physical resemblance between my figure in the hat and the real Basquiat. I tried to convey the energy of this artist, his incredible sense of light and the irony with which he portrayed his characters. Pure saturated colors create an expressive interplay of light. Blue, red and green complement each other as if neon light is illuminating the face. This painting embodies the courage to be yourself!
