My artworks are inspired by nature. However, you will not find detailed images of trees or grass in my paintings. With the help of muted and explosive shades on the canvas, I want to evoke emotion in the audience. Each of the artworks is inspired by the view that I saw with my own eyes. As soon as my brush touches the canvas, I only listen to my senses and feelings to create the perfect landscape painting.

-I have always been a person of nature. Even now I prefer living in a small town far from traffic and crowds. I`m not a sociopath, I love people, but still I prefer living on my own. Actually not alone, but with 3 dogs and a cat. I think the most exciting event that happened to me and influenced my outlook was a long trip by motorhome. The biggest struggle was to find the right size motorhome to accommodate me and my pets, but I managed to do this.
Can you imagine yourself waking up early in the morning and seeing a picturesque landscape from a height which is 2000 meters above sea level? I had this experience and I cannot even describe how valuable life seems to be at those moments.
Potapova was born in Uzhgorod, a small city in the West of Ukraine. Her parents were farmers and had family business. They believed that Potapova would inherit this business and will develop it, but the girl had completely different dreams. “I will not say that I dreamed of becoming an artist since childhood, I just dreamed of having 3 dogs and living my best life. Sometimes this dream seemed a bit unreaching for me, as my parents never supported my direction and wouldn't allow me to receive my education somewhere far from home.
I had a friend in my abandoned village, whose father was an artist and he introduced us both to the world of art when we were 9 years old. I painted my first artworks secretly from my parents as I didn't want to argue with them on my choice” Then when the question about my future arose as I got older, I was rather unshakable and had a serious conversation with my parents. At the end of the day they agreed to send me to the university I wanted. I failed my first attempt to pass the exam as I never had appropriate preparation for entering exams, unlike other abiturients, whose skills were rather impressive. I never gave up and in a year of hard work I took my second attempt successfully. There were people in the commision, who recalled me and expressed their respect to my strong desire. I was happy then”
Potapova received her bachelors and masters at Lviv Academy of Fine Arts. “When I graduated I still criticized my art a lot. I was not excited about what I did, but I worked hard every day to reach this point of self acceptance and self proudness. I found a job in a local museum. And in summer I worked as a guide to earn for life. I rented a small flat far from the center and later my parents helped me to buy my own flat-studio, and I managed to buy my dogs. I was missing my old days near the mountains, which I spent enjoying scenic views and counting the sheep of our neighbors. That's why I came up with the idea to make a trip throughout the most scenic places in Europe.
It worked for me, and after my return I became closer to the current style of my art. I remember that I created MAGIC lANDSCAPE, RAGING STORM, PINE FOREST, GREEN LAWN paintings and I love them a lot.” After that I was obsessed with the art by Basquiat art and I took inspiration in some of his artworks. I set a new goal to go on an expedition to some tribe in jungles and immerse myself into their lifestyle for at least a week. I watched plenty of videos thom the expeditions to jungles and I was so excited about the way these people can interact with nature. Maybe interaction is a wrong word, I would say that they can live in tandem with nature.
I think that would be a valuable experience for me, but I don't want it to last too long as I cannot imagine my life without everyday showers and taking care of myself.”
Potapova recreates her life experience on canvas and never stops experimenting with her style and learning new information about the history of Art. “I have been to many famous museums and art exhibitions and you know what I got, all those paintings are made to be beholden and my art is made to interact with real people in their real dwellings.”
